Research papers usually contain a significant number of links to other resources. For the most part, they reference other printed research papers, but there are also a non-trivial number of links to resources on the World Wide Web. Unlike printed research papers, references to WWW resources may become invalid after time. The server containing the page may be taken offline, be temporarily unavailable, be misconfigured, or the resource may have been moved to another location or server.
